If time is a hassle and skills are limited then for a small additional ‘Clean and Coat’ fee your work is done. We will give the barrel a very light sand to remove unwanted, foreign markings (pen marks, staples, and labels). Then apply a chemical substance (acid base) into the grain of the oak, and then finishing with a light gurney. Once the barrel is completely dry, then over 48 hours we will place 4 stainless screws in each band, and apply 2 coats of decking oil (UV protective).
The results are very popular and convenient. You will find the barrel standing out more as a feature with its natural fresh look. The wine barrel will still maintain its authentic character, giving it an awesome look as a finished product.
It is always important to recoat the barrel every 6 to 12 months with natural decking oil. Winery barrels will shrink with age and weathering, they also tend to acquire a thrist for moisture once they have been emptied. The external part of the barrel may require regular maintenance like all out door furniture.
